Subject: Dear Ms Baker and other RCAS board members,
I am disheartened to read the proposed changes to RCAS board by-laws to remove first and second requirements for RCAS board action. These changes would eliminate public comment and discussion with the board before substantive board action is taken.
This change would reduce transparency and accountability of our school board -- the opposite of what the current majority ran on. This move would be a bad example for our students and for our community in general. Elections have consequences, but they are not a license to govern by fiat.
These existing rules limit government bodies from making hasty (and bad) decisions. without public accountability. I would think limiting the board's power would be the conservative position!
Please do not approve these changes. If anything, in the future you may deeply regret it when a school board with opinions you disagree with is elected.
Thank you for your service to Rapid City.
