Young Democrats meet this Saturday in Sioux Falls

Young Dems of America are forming a South Dakota chapter this weekend.

Cool.

From live wire Dem activist, West River For Obama director, brand-new PenDem officer, and overall excellent person Kristin Aschenbrenner writes....

As many of you know, McGovern Day has been postponed. Our meeting will still be held on Saturday, April 25th, (facebook link) but the meeting location has been changed to the state party headquarters in Sioux Falls. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope to see many of you at the meeting.

We are working to become at chartered group with Young Democrats of America. YDA is the official youth arm of the Democratic party and has developed opportunities and support for young Democrats, as well as developed strategies to increase voter turnout. Once we are an official group, we will have the opportunity to have 3 national votes for YDA, and send members from South Dakota to regional and national conferences.

In order to accomplish this, we will be electing officials, as well as voting on a constitution (by-laws) at the meeting. Three positions who will have YDA voting rights will be open: President, committee woman, and committee man. YDA requires that the committee people are made up of one man and one woman. After a converstaion with the state party, we will also elect a vice-president to assist witht the president's duties as well as attend state party meetings with the president. At this time, the president and vice president will not have voting rights with SDDP, ut will have the opportunity to actively participate in e-board meetings. We will also need to elect a secretary, who will not have a national vote. The secretary will be responsible for taking minutes at our meetings.

Anyone interested in running for a position should be prepared to attend several statewide meetings a year, correspond through email and phone conferences, and help organize young Democrats across the state. President, committee woman, and committee man should also be prepared to attend some regional and national conferences.
