Rapid City School Advocates, Speak Up!

As we look forward to the coming school board elections and the state of our school funding, here are few items of interest:

New web site

A group interested in promoting better schools in Rapid City just set up a new web site. There's lots of good information and a blog going there already:

Meeting on March 5

Date:
Thursday, March 5 at 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Location:
City/School Administration Building at 300 Sixth Street, Rapid City
Third floor in the lunchroom.

Co-sponsors:
Committee for a Responsible Board of Education (CRBE)
Democracy In Action (DIA)

Who Should Attend:
Everyone who wants to learn more about recruiting or becoming a candidate for the Board of Education.

We will have information on how to file, what the responsibilities are of school board members, how long the terms are, what the compensation is, what the work load is like, etc. Please come and bring your friends, even if you don’t intend to run for the board. We want you to be informed so that you can encourage others to run.

Please plan on staying after this short meeting to attend the regular meeting of the Board of Education. They need to see that the community is engaged.

Also, please consider going online to the Rapid City Journal’s website to post a reply to the story on the budget cuts. Also, check out the Journal’s blog: Learning Curve, which is focused on education issues. We need to keep promoting a constructive, solutions-oriented dialogue.
