My letter to Sen Johnson

If you have similar feelings, please contact Sen. Johnson now, either through his website or call (202) 224-5842.

Dear Senator Johnson,

Please do not support Sen. Joseph Lieberman's bid to continue his Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairmanship. He can caucus with us, but I urge you and other Senators not to let him continue in that post in the next Senate.

He actively campaigned not only against our nominee, but against other Democratic Senators. I do not trust him to be 100% on board as we try to undo the folly of the Bush Administration's policies.

Even without his vocal support of Republicans during the election, the contrast between Lieberman's leadership and that of the corresponding committee in the House run by Rep Waxman should be enough argument to strip Lieberman of this post. Sen Lieberman has refused to investigate the wrongdoing of the Bush Administration and I do not trust his leadership to do so now as we work hard to pick up the pieces of eight years of failed leadership from the Executive Branch.

We have a lot of work to do cleaning up the abuses of the Dept of Homeland Security and the intelligence agencies, who have terribly threatened our civil liberties, ignored their Congressional mandates and pretty much done with they have wanted. Sen Lieberman, if re-elected chair, will be an impediment to the important checks on the Executive which must take place to restore the Constitutional balance of powers.

Please do NOT vote for Lieberman tomorrow.

Thank you.
