Streaming audio: Dobson et al fail to face reality

Like that is news. Nevertheless, I found this quite illuminating. In this audio from Dr. James Dobson's radio program, Dobson, Tony Perkins, et al. discuss the election late last week. Take a listen... they really don't get it. They don't understand the significance that although they won 7 of 8 state "marriage protection" amendments last week, 5 of those were won with less than a 60-40 majority. They don't understand that "values voters" include people with values that are somewhat less skewed and better informed by reality than theirs seem to be.

These guys (they ARE mostly guys, though there is one woman from Dobson's Colorado Springs staff) either are in major denial or simply do not grasp the truth: many in our country (including many Christians) are tiring of their ignorant and spiteful diatribes against single parents, gays, and even strong women; their longtime promotion of a political party that doesn't make the poor a priority; and their hammering on a few wedge issues into platitudes that simply don't make sense when measured against our real-life experience.

Jeremiah would have a few choice words for this crowd. But a far worse fate, from an American cultural perspective is being handed them: the collective yawn.

  1. It's you guys who don't get it. Right and wrong isn't determined by a majority vote (it's an unchangeable standard determined by the Creator), and we're going to keep trying to be the salt and light our Savior has called us to be. You say you're a member of His Church; you should join us instead of working so hard for the other guy.

  2. Bob,
Who is that other guy? Male? Female? Does that other guy attend church? Is this Accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior diatribe? Is the "other guy" Beelzebub?
What you do not get is that we are SICK of your religious dogma. We are not all alike. We do not agree on everything. We are individuals, human beings, who have different thoughts, ideals and lifestyle then you.
It is a big world out there with millions of people who do not agree with you and are actually gaining the confidence to say so. Accept it, the world is changing and not in your favor! You are going to be left behind, complaining about lost opportunities and damning us all to hell.
    Keep religion out of government!

  3. There's a line from one of my favorite TV shows that goes something like this: "You know you're doing something right when they're shooting at you."

Well, RR, you know you're doing something right when the likes of Mr. Ellis basically calls you a servant of Satan. Keep up the good work. Those who know you know who you are working for. It's comforting to know that a loving, forgiving, God of redemption will be my judge, not Mr. Ellis.
